Well – thoroughly, carefully, pleasing, good
Designed – envisioned, intentional, intuitive, contemplated, beautiful, aspiring
Living – being, presence, way, mode, life, dwelling
I continually ruminate about design.
What does design have to do with my life? Everything, really.
I’ve never been content to leave things alone. I long for change. I desire to shape my surroundings. I am not content to leave a problem unsolved, or at least unconsidered. I love creating, becoming, making sense of something, the challenge of finding a better way, making meaning of experience, and seeking balance between the intuitive and the intentional.
Literally, I’m drawn to design. Even as a child, I sought out the house floor plans in the back of my mom’s Country Living and Colonial Homes magazines. I envisioned one day having my own home and not only being able to make real my imagined floor plans but thinking also how my life would be lived in those homes.
Conceptually, I am fascinated by design thinking. How will I arrange my living room to nurture a comfortable, expressive atmosphere? How will I devise the best way to commute to and from work, taking into consideration time, traffic, and the most inspiring views? How do I solve the problem of making change with limited resources? How could I be a better mother?
Design in its fullest definition has opened me to finding inspiration everyday and in the everyday, so this blog is a reflection of the many places, people, things, and experiences that inspire me. It is also an expression of my efforts to thoughtfully and intentionally make better my surroundings and life – for well designed living.
